About us
The Theoretical Studies Section is made up of a small group of theoreticians with disparate background and experience. Current activities are on quantum Optics, Quantum information theory, non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and foundational issues. Over the years, the theory activities have grown in the background a large experimental condensed matter physics and materials science activity at our centre. Hence, members of the theory group actively interact with colleagues from the experimental side for the interpretation of experimental results. Superconducting and magnetic materials, soft condensed matter physics, high pressure investigations, surface science are some areas to which members of the group have contributed. The study of radiation effects in reactor materials is another important area to which this group provides theoretical and computational support. Presently computational activities in band structure calculations, classical molecular dynamics and ab-intio molecular dynamics are areas where our research students are working on.
